Chosen

God is Sovereign

Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” Genesis 18:18-19

Thousands of years ago, God chose Abraham and his descendants to be the vehicle which would draw all of mankind to Himself. That promise brought a sense of pride to Abraham and what became the Jewish nation. But also with God’s promise came a great deal of sacrifice and suffering. As God’s chosen, they were not given a life of ease which is what most of us would expect if “chosen”. After centuries of struggle, Jesus came to earth to illustrate the extreme sacrifice He would make on the cross to fulfill God’s purpose. 

Jesus did not live for himself but rather to please His Father. As one of God’s beloved creation, will you chose to live for more than just what pleases you?  Will you live to please God?  To do so, we must overcome our expectations for a certain way of life.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

Because God is sovereign, through Jesus Christ, I can live out God’s purpose for my life.
